The Uladar potato variety belongs to the early harvest. It was bred by Belarusian breeders, and in 2008 it was included in the state register. The variety is young, well-zoned for cultivation in the middle lane. It has not yet received mass distribution among gardeners, but every year more and more people prefer it.
Description of Uladar potatoes
Uladar is considered one of the earliest varieties: according to the description, it passes from germination to technical maturity only 75 days... Bushes are small, almost erect. The leaves are bright green and small in size.
Uladar's flowers are red-purple in color. Mature tubers are predominantly round-oval in shape, their surface is smooth. The skin is yellow and the flesh is yellowish. Tuber can reach mass in 130 grams.
Characteristic
The maximum starch content in Uladar potatoes reaches 12.5%, and the dry matter is 19.5%.
As for sugars, their share is approximately equal to 0.42%. Thanks to this, good taste characteristics are provided. On a ten-point scale, this variety scored 7 points.
Uladar bushes are rather compact, not spreading. This greatly facilitates the processing and further care after planting.
The history of the appearance in the Belarusian selection
The work on the selection of the variety was carried out by a number of scientists, including:
- I. Kolyadka;
- L. Vologdina;
- V. Makhanko;
- G. Piskun.
It was to them that the authorship was assigned. It should be noted that Uladar is a rather young variety, because only in 2008 it was included in the State Register and recommended for cultivation in the Central Region. During this time, he managed to win the hearts of not only Belarusians, but also get far beyond the borders of the republic.
Yield
A bush of this variety can yield a harvest in 8-13 tubers weighing 90-160 grams... These are very good indicators, which most experienced gardeners pay attention to.
With industrial cultivation, one hectare can be harvested up to 600 centners potatoes, however, the first digging gives, as a rule, a significantly lower yield: about 350 centners.
The record for the yield of the Uladar variety was recorded in the amount of 71 tons of potatoes from one hectare of land.
Advantages and disadvantages
If the potato managed in a short time to attract the attention of not only the inhabitants of their country, but also to get far beyond its borders, then it should have a number of advantages over its competitors.
These include the following:
- short ripening times and the possibility of getting a very early harvest;
- high yield;
- even shape and smooth surface of the tuber;
- excellent product characteristics;
- wonderful taste;
- perfectly stored;
- good resistance to mechanical damage;
- resistance to pathogens;
- high yield of marketable tubers.
Naturally, Uladar is not without certain shortcomings, which must also be reckoned with. First of all, this is the fact that in some areas this variety highly susceptible to colorado potato beetle... Plants must be protected and treated with modern drugs designed to combat this pest.
Growing features
Agrotechnics
Uladar does not require particularly complex agricultural techniques; it can grow on almost any type of soil. Still a plant demanding on the amount of nitrogencontained in the composition of the soil, as well as to phosphorus... Also, the soil should not lack potassium.
Landing in sandy and sandy loam soil is done earlier than in loamy soil. With a lack of nutrients and trace elements, the quantity and quality of the crop will be reduced.
Growing rules
If planting is carried out in an area where moisture is constantly present, then tubers should not be very deep (5-6 centimeters are enough).
Ridge planting is used primarily in areas where pre-leveling has been done. In this case, the planting depth is kept at the level of 7-8 centimeters. But if the site is rather dry, then the prepared tubers are planted to a depth of 12-13 centimeters.
During the season remove weeds, weed the beds... About two inter-row treatments are carried out per season. It is not necessary to plant the bushes very close to each other, the access of air and light to the soil should be maintained. As a rule, standard landing patterns are used for this.
Planting: when and how to plant
Planting in sandy and sandy loam soil occurs in the same period as the sowing of early grain crops. But germinated and previously prepared tubers are planted in loamy soil a week later.
Shortly before planting, they ensure that the seed sprouts. If the tubers are stored in a cool place, then you will need to transfer them to a warm room.
Immediately before planting, it is recommended to treat the tubers with drugs to combat pests and fungal diseases... This measure is not mandatory, but subsequently the crop will be less exposed to negative factors and will be protected.
Care rules
Potatoes need to be watered periodically as they grow. Terms and volumes depend on the type and condition of the soil. Usually during the season 3-4 wateringhowever, this number is adjusted for specific weather and climate conditions. You should be guided by the general condition of the bush and soil.
During the season at least two treatments for pests (primarily from the Colorado potato beetle). After germination, the plantings are carefully examined, and if mass accumulations of these insects are detected, the bushes are treated with special preparations. The proportions and processing area are indicated by the manufacturer on the packaging.
Uladar potatoes are very picky about the nitrogen content in the soil, therefore it is necessary to feed the plants after the emergence of seedlings phosphorus and nitrogen-containing fertilizers... In the second half of the growing season, make potassium... Organic feeding will not be superfluous, but the main thing here is not to overdo it.
With an excess of nitrogen fertilizers, potatoes can begin to grow abundantly green ground mass, and the crop of tubers will be very poor. Follow the proportions indicated by the manufacturer on the packaging.
They try to keep the plantings clean, getting rid of weeds. The first weeding is done when the seedling height reaches 7-10 centimeters, and then as needed.
For the season of the garden weed at least twice... In addition, hilling is carried out at least once (when the plants exceed a height of 10 centimeters). This allows air to flow to the tubers. The soil is kept loose until harvest.
When to dig and how to store
Dig up the potatoes after the tops have wither, the leaves turn yellow and fall off, but the stems are still green. At this time, the tubers have excellent market characteristics and keeping quality.
In the middle lane, as a rule, the harvest falls on August-early September... These dates are not accurate and are adjusted depending on weather and climatic conditions. For harvesting, it is better to choose sunny and dry weather.
Before sending tubers for storage, they should dry and ventilate in the open air... Then, the damaged or defective tubers are sorted and selected, and only after that the crops are put into boxes and baskets.
Uladar potatoes are perfectly stored, do not require additional hassle during the growing process. When preparing culinary dishes, she has wonderful reviews from hostesses. It is suitable for both frying and roasting, as well as cooking. The tubers do not boil over, retain their aroma and have excellent taste. With regard to cultivation: in a favorable climate, two crops of this variety are obtained per year, and this is beneficial for gardeners.
