Luck potatoes are early ripe. Excellent presentation. It is popular among summer residents, as well as in demand among buyers.
Characteristics and description of the potato variety Udacha
Potatoes of the Udacha variety appeared in 1994 at the A.G. Lorkh State Scientific Research Institute of Agricultural Sciences. Breeders have created unpretentious, high-yieldingvariety adapted to different climatic conditions and soil.
According to the description, tubers of the Udacha variety are round or oval, with a small number of eyes. The skin is thin and smooth. Skin color: yellowish or brown.
It is a medium-sized bush with dense dark green foliage. Flowers - white, sepals bent downward. Abundant flowering of the variety.
Tuber pulp is white, dense. When cooked, it turns yellow.
Tuber weight reaches 90 - 130 g... The growing season lasts 70 - 80 days.
Characteristic:
- early maturing;
- high-yielding;
- drought-resistant;
- resistant to lodging;
- easy going;
- with excellent taste.
In addition, it is distinguished by:
- number of tubers from 1 culture - 10-15;
- starchiness - 12 - 14%;
- yield from 1 bush - 1.7 kg;
- yield from 1 ha - 1.5 t;
- marketability - 88-97%.
Advantages and disadvantages of the variety
Advantages:
- immunity to low temperatures. Tuber germination begins at a temperature of +10.
- fast tying of tubers. After 45 days early potatoes are dug for cooking. It tastes good.
- ripening in a short time;
- immunity to many diseases. Not affected by viral diseases.
- resistant to mechanical damage... Especially when collecting and transporting.
- high yields;
- keeping quality.
Among the disadvantages: susceptibility to late blight and stem nematode, exactingness to the soil. - History of withdrawal
Seed preparation
We germinate the seeds in the light 2-3 weeks before planting. Planting material is placed in boxes or on a tarp in one layer, allowing access to natural light. In the light, the tubers turn green, which in the future has a positive effect on growth and resistance to disease.
We sort and sort potatoes, discard sick, substandard tubers. We select high-quality planting material.
Choosing tubers medium size... Cut large tubers into two parts so that each half has at least 3 - 4 sprouts.
Landing
Late April - early May planting potatoes in the ground. Planting root crops in cold soil reduces the yield by 2 times. The optimum soil temperature for seeds is 10 degrees Celsius.
For potatoes, there is a rule that has been tested for centuries: they are planted not earlier than the leaves on the birch blossom, but not later than the bird cherry blossoms.
Luck potatoes unpretentious to the ground... Grows on different types of soil: clay and sandy loam, chernozem and loam.
The site is prepared in the fall, organic is introduced. Precursors for culture - cabbage, cucumbers, melons and gourds... Do not plant potatoes in the garden after tomatoes, because they belong to the same nightshade family.
In the spring, before planting, they re-dig up the soil, apply ash and mineral fertilizers.
Ripening in a short time
There is an effective way to get an ultra-early harvest. Take box with peat or sawdust, watered with water and planted seed tubers. The formed plant is planted in the garden bed after two weeks. However, gardeners rarely use this laborious technology.
On clay soils, use landing on ridges... Seed material is planted in ridges, the height of which reaches 20 cm. The interval between them is 60 cm. This technology improves seed heating and air permeability.
On chernozems it is used smooth fit... The seeds are planted to a depth of 5-7 centimeters. The soil is not rolled, but harrowed with a rake.
The growing season of yield lasts approximately 75-90 days... However, already 45 lazy after planting, you can harvest. For food, you can already dig out the bushes at the end of June.
This variety has a large yield, it is possible to harvest from one bush 12-20 potato tubers, which is 1-2 kg.
Full ripening of potatoes "Luck" occurs after the tops turn yellow.
It should be remembered that in a green bush, the tubers are still in the development stage. Be sure to dry the potatoes in the shade after harvesting.
Scheme and landing time
Air temperature and soil warming are the main indicators of planting potatoes in the ground.
Potatoes of the Luck variety are planted according to the scheme 20 x 60 cm... Ash and humus are introduced into each hole. With the emergence of seedlings, they huddle in order to protect against temperature changes. Covering material is also used. The second loosening is carried out when the tops reach a height of 20 cm.
Loosening the soil, weeding weeds - agrotechnical techniques in the care of potatoes. It is recommended to loosen the soil after rain to improve oxygen access to the plant root system.
Fertilizers and watering
Fertilization of the culture is carried out when seedlings appear, during budding and flowering.
At the first feeding, 1 tablespoon of urea and bird droppings, 0.5 liters of mullein per 10 liters of water are introduced. The second time the plants are fed with potassium sulfate (1 tablespoon) and wood ash (2-3 tablespoons) based on a bucket of water. During flowering, use 2 tablespoons of superphosphate and 1 cup of mullein per bucket of liquid. Solution consumption per bush - 500 ml.
The introduction of chloride and potassium fertilizers in large doses causes the formation of tubers prone to darkening of the pulp.
Lucky potatoes undemanding to watering... In unfavorable weather (drought, heat), the site is watered using rain or settled tap water. Be sure to loosen it after watering.
Pest and disease control
Potatoes of the Luck variety are immune to many diseases, but prone to late blight and stem nematode.
High humidity, the density of potato plantings are the reasons for the development of late blight. Signs of the disease: appearance dark spots on leaves and stemsrotting tubers.
Preventive measures: regular weeding, change of crop rotation... Control methods: treatment with copper-containing preparations such as Bordeaux liquid or copper oxychloride. They are used in any phase of plant growth. Affected leaves and bushes are destroyed.
The stem nematode is characterized by pale leaves, thickening of crop stems, bushiness and dark spots on tubers. To prevent disease, a tablespoon of ash is added to the hole during planting. Sick cultures are removed.
In the fight against the Colorado potato beetle, both chemical preparations and folk remedies are used.
- Ash... Spraying with a mixture of ash (2 l) with laundry soap (a piece) on a bucket of water.
- Wormwood... Add 300 g of grass, a glass of ash to a bucket of hot water and leave for 3 hours.
- Poplar... Fill half a bucket with leaves, add water, boil for 15 minutes. Top up to 10 liters, leave for 3 days.
- Scare "talker"... Stir 300 g of soda and yeast in a bucket of liquid, spray the plants 1-2 times a week.
- Colorado potato beetle against itself... Fill a 500 ml jar with pests, pour it into a 10-liter container, fill it with water, and close it tightly. After a week, the infusion is used in a 1: 2 ratio.
Harvesting and storage
The digging of potatoes begins one and a half months after planting. The signal for mass harvesting in August is the drying of the tops.
Before storing, the root crops are dried and sorted. Store in a cellar, basement at a temperature from + 2 to + 5 degrees.
The varieties Vilnya and Anoka formed the basis of the Udacha potato variety. Luck potatoes are an excellent option for the garden.
