The tomato variety Batianya is adapted for growing in different regions, it is distinguished by its unpretentiousness and high yield. Growing this tomato variety will provide the diet with nutritious fruits from June to October, even without a greenhouse. A description of the characteristics of the variety and detailed agricultural technology from the article will help to get a high yield with minimal effort.
Characteristics of the tomato variety Batyan
The variety was bred by breeders of the Siberian Garden company. It is oriented for cultivation in different climatic conditions, including Siberia with short summers and unstable temperatures. Suitable for outdoor cultivation in stakes and greenhouses.
It is an indeterminate variety, reaching a height of up to 2.2 meters in the open field and up to 1.7 meters in the greenhouse. Batyanya is an early ripening variety. The first fruits ripen 90 days after germination. Fruiting lasts until the first frost. Average yield from each bush is 5-6 kg.
Fruits with an average weight of 250-350 g, cone-shaped, crimson. Tomatoes are sweet, sugary and fleshy. Suitable for fresh use, processing into lecho, juices or pastes.
Advantages and disadvantages
Breeders say: tomato is not picky about the quality of the soil, requires a minimum of maintenance and is attractive for supplementing the diet with fresh fruits in June.
The advantages are also noted:
- resistance to late blight;
- low foliage;
- high yield up to 17 kg from 1 m2;
- the possibility of further propagation by seeds;
- drought resistance, cold resistance;
- good preservation and transportability of fruits.
The disadvantages of the variety were revealed in the practice of gardeners. This is poor seed germination and the formation of a large number of stepchildren, which requires regular pruning. Fruits are overly sensitive to moisture, cracking and rotting. A few rainy days may well ruin the harvest.
Shoots of Batiani often break off under the weight of the fruit, which requires tying each hand separately. Despite these shortcomings, the Batianya variety is popular with gardeners. Has an advantage over hybrids with similar characteristics, the nutritional value of the fruits and the relative simplicity of care.
Growing seedlings
For the first planting of Batyan's tomato, seeds are best purchased from well-known manufacturers. Such planting material is completely ready for sowing: hardened and disinfected from diseases.
The required age for seedlings at the time of planting in the ground is 55-60 days after sowing.
For heated greenhouses, seeds are sown from February 15 to early March, and for open ground from April 1 to 15.
Soil mixture for tomatoes consists of components mixed in equal parts:
- turf land:
- humus;
- peat;
- rotted sawdust.
Wood ash (400 g), urea (4 g) and superphosphate (20 g) are added to a 10 l bucket of substrate. The mixed soil mixture is disinfected - watered with a 0.1% solution of potassium permanganate and dried.
Prepare a container for seedlings in a shape suitable for the placement. The required container height is 8-10 cm.
The containers are filled with a substrate and watered with a hot 0.1% solution of potassium permanganate. On the surface of the soil, grooves are made 1 cm deep at a distance of 3 cm. Seeds are placed in them at intervals of 1-2 cm and sprinkled with soil.
The surface of the container is covered with a film. Crops are placed in a warm and lighted place. Optimal conditions: t + 25 ° С- + 28 ° С, air humidity 80-90%, minimum lighting 15 hours a day.
Watered with warm water as the soil dries up. After the emergence of seedlings in 6-7 days, the film is removed. Seedlings dive after the first two true leaves appear.
The first feeding is carried out 10 days after the pick, the second 7 days before transplanting into open ground.
It is convenient to use ready-made formulations:
- Forward (Agricola);
- Agricola No. 3;
- Nitrofoska;
- Effekton.
The drugs are used according to the instructions.
10-15 days before transplanting, the seedlings are hardened, taken out on balconies or on the street, gradually increasing the time.
Tomato in the open field
For growing tomatoes, they choose an illuminated place protected from northern winds. The garden bed is planned on a treated area fertilized with peat compost, humus and minerals: phosphorus, nitrogen, potassium. Rows of tomatoes are oriented from north to south.
Transplanting
Seedlings are transplanted after warming up the soil at a depth of 10 cm to +15 ° C and establishing a stable air temperature.
Tomatoes are arranged in two rows in a checkerboard pattern, leaving a distance between plants of 0.5 m. In the marked places, holes are formed. On the northern side of the holes, supports are installed - stakes 2 m high from the surface of the soil.
The roots of the seedlings are placed in the hole, covered with soil up to the cotyledon leaves, squeezed tightly and watered abundantly. The stem is tied to the support with a "free loop", as it grows over the summer, you will need up to 3 garters.
Watering and fertilizing
Tomatoes are watered with water at room temperature in the morning. The first week after planting seedlings, irrigate every day, consuming 2-3 liters of water for each plant.
Then the frequency of watering is reduced to 1 time per week, but the volume of water is increased to 10 liters for one plant. The bushes are watered at the root, avoiding moisture on the leaves.
Watering is combined with weeding and loosening the soil. After a month, the tomatoes form superficial roots, after which it is better to stop loosening. The soil surface under the tomatoes is covered with a layer of mulch: straw, peat or humus.
During the season, you will need 3 dressings:
- the first 10 days after planting the seedlings: with an aqueous solution of mullein 1: 10;
- the second 10 days after the formation of ovaries: superphosphate (30 g), urea (20 g), potassium sulfate (10 g), potassium permanganate (3 g), copper sulfate (2 g) are added to 10 l mullein solution (1: 10) ;
- the third after ripening of the first batch of fruits: with the same solution as in the second feeding.
Top dressing is carried out after watering, spending 1.5 liters of solution per plant.
Formation of bushes
Batian's tomato plants form 1 or 2 stems. To do this, remove all the stepsons - the lateral branches of the tomato growing from the leaf axils. They are completely removed with a sharp knife, leaving only the main shoot with fruiting brushes. To form the second stem, a stepson is left, which grows under the first flower brush.
During the season, remove all yellowed and darkened plant leaves. From July 20 to August 5, pinch or cut off the growth point by 2-3 cm.
Disease prevention
At high humidity, the risk of damage to tomatoes by late blight or cladosporiosis increases. The first preventive treatment of the bushes is carried out 15 days after planting in the ground. To do this, use a 1% solution of Bordeaux liquid.
Spraying is carried out two more times, but only before the fruit sets in 4 clusters. After that, poisons cannot be used, the fruits become unfit for food for 3 weeks.
Further spraying is carried out with an infusion of garlic, the phytoncides of which protect against fungal spores. To prepare the infusion, garlic chopped in a meat grinder (200 g) is poured with warm water (1 l) and infused for 1 day. The strained infusion is diluted in 10 liters of water and 40 g of laundry soap is added. The solution is sprayed with bushes every 7-10 days.
For additional prevention between the main sprays, the bushes are treated with a 0.1% solution of potassium permanganate. Regular removal of yellowed leaves, cleanliness and dryness of the trunk circles helps to prevent diseases.
All the varietal qualities of the Batian tomato can be increased. To do this, you need to carefully observe the agricultural technology of the plant, do not skip feeding and preventive treatments. Subsequently, from the seeds taken from the fruits on the site, with each generation, more adapted to the region and strong plants will grow.
