For everyone who wants to harvest tomatoes early, there is a tomato hybrid under the unusual name Hali-gali. This early maturing variety does not bring much trouble to the cultivation of the plant. The tomato was developed by Siberian breeders and was licensed as a hybrid in 2003. Hali-gali was recommended for cultivation in greenhouses and in unprotected ground. Currently it enjoys a well-deserved reputation among gardeners and gardeners. Description and characteristics of the variety are presented in this review.
Description and characteristics of Hali-gali tomatoes
An early ripening hybrid, from the appearance of the first shoots to the receipt of ripe fruits, it takes 80-100 days. He has similar F-1 hybrids. The plant is a determinant variety with a standard bush.
It is recommended to grow the Hali-Gali variety in the open field, but many gardeners plant it in greenhouses: there the tomato ripens 10-15 days faster. The bush has rich light green leaves, and its height reaches 90 cm.
The inflorescences of this variety, like other tomatoes, do not have nectar. In this regard, pollination in greenhouses sometimes has to be done manually or use different methods to attract bees. Hali-gali tomato is more suitable for growing in the southern regions and the North Caucasus. In central Russia, the Urals and Siberia, it is recommended to grow under film shelters.
Advantages and disadvantages
Highlighting the advantages of a hybrid, it should be noted:
- Consistency of development plants when changing weather conditions;
- Possibility grow this crop on the balcony, due to small growth;
- Endurance to insufficient humidity;
- Early harvest fruits;
- Large sugar percentage in fruits.
The variety has a low yield and is in need of additional feeding. On this, perhaps, all of his shortcomings end.
Planting seeds and growing seedlings
- Since the Hali-gali variety is hybrid, then, first of all, you need to purchase seeds in the store (it is impossible to collect them on your own). Then we buy a ready-made formula in the store or mix the necessary components ourselves.
- We prepare containers for seedlings, First we pour the drainage into the bottom in the form of expanded clay, then the moistened prepared nutrient mixture. We make depressions in the containers and plant the seeds (to guarantee, we bury 2 seeds per container in the soil).
- Cover the seedlings with foil and place them on a lighted windowsill. When growing seedlings, three conditions must be observed: the necessary heat, light and humidity. At the beginning, for seedlings, you need to maintain a temperature of 22-25 degrees, then, when the film is removed from the seedling boxes when sprouts appear, you need to lower it to 17-19 degrees.
- Usually in April daylight hours are still small, therefore, to create the necessary illumination for seedlings for 12 hours, you need to create an artificial highlight. During growth, make sure that the ground is moist; for this, the seedlings must be watered.
Tomato seeds for seedlings should be sown 50-60 days before planting seedlings in the ground.
For the correct development of plants, it is necessary to accurately determine the timing of planting seeds, otherwise, in case of overexposure, tomatoes take a long time to take root.
Approximate dates for planting seeds by region:
- In the southern regions of Russia and Ukraine - from February 20 to March 15;
- In the central district - from March 15 to April 1;
- In the Urals, Siberia - from 1 to 15 April.
In order not to be mistaken when to start growing seedlings, you need to focus on frosts that are possible in your region. By counting back 60 days from this date, you can accurately determine the seed sowing time. If you plan to plant in a greenhouse, then sowing can be started earlier by 2-3 weeks.
Planting seedlings in the ground
Fertile, well-lit areas, preferably with a southern slope, are prepared for the early-maturing Hali-gali tomatoes. It is undesirable to plant tomatoes for two years in a row in the same place due to soil-borne diseases.
Legumes, greens and root vegetables are good predecessors. It is undesirable to plant after tomatoes and potatoes.
Planting of different varieties on the same row is possible. It is necessary to plant seedlings when the frosts pass, at the beginning of June, in the greenhouse you can - May 10-15. It is advisable to transplant on a cloudy day, or in the evening when the heat subsides.
At the same time, undersized ones should be planted at a distance of 40 cm from each other and 50 cm should be kept between the rows. Place the stems vertically, and deepen the earthen pot in the soil without burying the growing point. After planting, water the plants abundantly.
Growing tomatoes
During the growth of the tomato, it is also meant to care for them. To do this, you need to regularly inspect the plants and, if necessary, you need to:
- Spud... The first time you need to do this two weeks after planting the seedlings, then after 14-15 days another 2-3 times;
- Loosen the soil around the root system. The earth must be airy;
- To water... This should be done abundantly, but not often;
- Pinch... Form a tomato bush for one, two or three shoots and then regularly remove axillary inflorescences. It is also recommended to remove the lower leaves;
- Apply top dressing. Apply the first feeding 10-14 days after planting. The second - after the beginning of flowering of the second flower cluster.
When growing a tomato, you need to sometimes shake the plants for better fertilization. This procedure is done in the afternoon from 12 to 15 o'clock, and then the tomatoes with pistils are lightly watered with warm water: pollen sticks more easily to a wet pistil.
A feature of the variety is that the F-1 hybrid is not susceptible to diseases, and in these rare cases, you can do without chemicals. This, in turn, will affect the ecological purity of the fruit.
As already mentioned, the fruit ripens after three months. The first inflorescence forms in front of the seventh leaf. Fruits have a uniform red color with a pointed tip at the end. The harvest of Hali-Gali tomatoes is relatively small, about 3 kg per bush and up to 12 kg per 1 m2
Due to the fact that the Khali-gali variety is early ripe, this harvest is enough to enjoy the taste of the first fruits, using them in salads. Also, these tomatoes are good for preservation for the winter in the form of various preparations.
