Iodine is a useful substance not only for humans, but also for most vegetable crops and ornamental plants. But before pampering your favorite plants with iodine-based feeding, you need to carefully study the recipes for the solutions and the principle of action of the medicinal product on tomato seedlings.
You can feed and process tomatoes with whey, depending on the purpose for which the processing is performed. How to use folk remedies and in what proportions, why you need to water the seedlings of cucumbers and how to process them after picking, we will tell further.
Why iodine is useful for tomato seedlings
Tomatoes very demanding on the presence of iodine, therefore, they are simply unable to fully develop without it.
Useful properties of iodine use:
- Promotes abundant fruiting.
- Strengthens the immunity of young plants.
- Accelerates seed germination.
- Excellent antifungal agent.
Watering and spraying with a weakly concentrated iodine solution is an excellent tool from late blight and powdery mildew.
Timely treatment of diseased plants with iodine will prevent the spread of a dangerous disease in tomato plantings and preserve the future harvest.
How to determine the lack of iodine in a plant
As a rule, the appearance of the plant indicates a lack of iodine. What should you pay attention to when examining the bushes?
- The shortage affects the condition of the tomatoes: the leaves become pale, stems - thin.
- Tomatoes are often sick with dangerous diseases, such as late blight, brown spot, mosaic and root rot. The dose after a complete cure of the planting again falls ill due to the lack of good immunity.
- Due to a lack of adult tomatoes, they enter the fruiting phase late or do not bring harvest at all... If iodine is not added immediately to the plants, the fruits will be small, often green. It is impossible to get a generous harvest from such plants.
How to feed
The solution is applied under the plants in the form of root and foliar feeding. The first method involves watering tomatoes at the root, the second - spraying the leaves with a nutrient solution. Experienced growers alternate root and foliar dressing to achieve the best effect.
During the introduction of iodine, the following sequence must be observed:
- Slightly strengthened seedlings are fed weak solution: add 2-3 drops to 4 liters of water.
- In June, during active preparation for flowering, tomatoes are fed milk iodine solution (recipe is described below).
- In order to strengthen the vegetables as much as possible by the fruiting period, root top dressing is applied under the tomatoes: 10 drops of an alcoholic iodine solution are added to 1 bucket of water.
- During the period of fruit setting, the bushes are fertilized with a solution based on ash and boric acid... Top dressing is watered at the root of the plant.
Please note that the first watering can be extended only after the seedlings reach 10 days of age.
What is the peculiarity of using in a greenhouse and open ground
If the purpose of adding iodine is not only feeding tomatoes, but also treatment for late blight, processing is carried out in a special way.
- To get rid of phytophthora and prevent its appearance, the walls of the greenhouse are cleaned of debris.
- Washes clean surfaces 1% manganese solution.
- The greenhouse is fumigated with coal: a metal bucket is covered with a skin, over which hot coals are poured. The room must be tightly closed during manipulation.
Before processing tomato plantings in open ground, preparation is also not carried out.
Folk remedies for processing tomatoes
- 1 glass chopped garlic fall asleep in a bucket of water and leave to infuse for a day. After the time has elapsed, the tincture is filtered and 2 g of potassium permanganate is added. Foliar top dressing is applied to destroy fungi.
- 15 g of ash is stirred in 2 liters of boiling water and insisted throughout the day. Then strain the mixture and water the plants. Ash feeding eliminates the lack of phosphorus.
- Chicken droppings diluted twice with water, and then lowered into the cellar for 3 days. Fermented top dressing is diluted 1:10 and applied at the root.
How to feed cucumbers and peppers
Cucumbers are fed in order to replenish the supply of nutrients and rejuvenate the fruit-bearing lashes: the culture is sprayed every 10 days with a mixture of milk.
To get rid of powdery mildew, the plant and the soil near it are abundantly sprayed with a solution based on milk and iodine: 350 ml of milk, 4 drops are added to 3 liters of water.
To accelerate the emergence of seedlings pepper, the seeds are soaked for 6 hours in a 0.1% native solution. After the procedure, the seeds germinate quickly, turning into strong seedlings.
When the pepper releases the second pair of leaves, the seedlings are watered with fertilizer: 1 drop of 5% iodine tincture is diluted in 3 liters of water.
Ways of conducting
To fertilize tomatoes, the required dose of a solution based on a medicinal substance is poured directly under the root of the plant. Since tomato leaves have good absorbency, plants sprayed with top dressing from a spray bottle.
Watering
When the earthen lump near the plant dries slightly, the tomatoes are poured with water with the addition of a few drops. As a result of this manipulation, two tasks are solved at once: the plants absorb the necessary moisture and useful microparticles.
Spraying with milk
A milk-based mixture is an excellent fungicide agent: the leaves are covered with a milky film, due to which pathogens cannot fix on the surface.
To prepare a solution, 4 liters of water are combined with 1 liter of fresh milk and 15 drops of iodine tincture. Spray the tomatoes with the resulting mixture in cloudy dry weather.
Spraying with serum
To prevent the spread of late blight, tomato seedlings are sprayed with such a mixture: 1 liter of serum, 40 drops of iodine tincture, 10 ml of 3% hydrogen peroxide are added to 10 liters of water.
You can spray seedlings with fashionable dressings no more than twice a month. Foliar dressing based on dairy products with pre-diluted water can be applied daily.
Top dressing with iodine and brilliant green
Spraying seedlings with antiseptic preparations is excellent prevention and treatment of late blight... To prepare for 10 liters of water add 10 ml of iodine or 40 drops of brilliant green. The resulting mixture is applied in the form of root and foliar feeding.
Root feeding
The first time the seedlings are fed when it throws out a second pair of true leaves... For cooking, take 3 liters of clean water and slightly warm it up, and then add 1 drop.
It is highly discouraged to increase the dosage: young plants will receive enough nutrients from a weak solution.
Fertilizer is applied at the root when the soil in the seedling container has dried out a little.
The second time iodine is added, when on tomatoes fruits are tied... To apply fertilizer in this phase, the concentration of the solution is slightly reduced: 3 drops of medical iodine are dripped onto 1 bucket of warm water. 1 liter of solution is added to the root of tall varieties, 0.7 liters of undersized varieties.
The last time they feed during the period of active fruiting... Top dressing is prepared as follows:
- Add 3 liters of ash to a container with 5 liters of boiled water, mix the solution thoroughly and leave to infuse for an hour.
- The present solution is diluted with 5 liters of warm water.
- A bottle of iodine, 10 g of boric acid is added to the container and the nutrient composition is thoroughly mixed until a homogeneous consistency.
- The finished mixture is infused for 24 hours, and then strongly diluted with water: 1 liter of top dressing is diluted with 1 bucket of water.
Fertilizer based on ash and iodine is good boosts immunity tomato to various diseases, including phytophthora, which often affects tomato plantings.
Foliar
Fertilizers can not only be poured under the root, but sprayed over the top of the plant. Tomatoes sprayed in the morning or evening in dry weather... If precipitation falls after application, the tomatoes are sprayed again.
Please note that feeding must fall on the leaves. in the form of fognot spray, otherwise spraying will be ineffective.
It is impossible to increase the amount of iodine added during the preparation of top dressing - spraying tomatoes with a too concentrated solution is fraught with leaf burns.
Due to the regular introduction of iodine, tomatoes grow strong and healthy: the substance replenishes plants with nutrients, increases resistance to diseases, and increases productivity.
